The NIH continues to fund research into cannabis compounds, their therapeutic properties, and the endocannabinoid system.

Potential Risks to Brain Function

THC can impair attention, short-term memory, reaction time, coordination, and judgment. It may also trigger anxiety, paranoia, or other unpleasant psychological effects, particularly at high doses. Frequent use of high-THC products may be especially concerning for adolescents and young adults because the brain continues developing into early adulthood.

CBD does not usually cause intoxication, but it is not risk-free. It may cause drowsiness, digestive problems, mood changes, liver injury, and interactions with prescription medicines.
